David Hennigar
David Hennigar is a graduate of Mount Allison University (B. Comm. with Honours in Accounting) and Queens University (MBA). In 1994 he founded Acadian Securities as an independent investment firm providing research, bond trading, corporate finance and sales services primarily in the Maritimes marketplace.
David’s 46 years of experience in the investment business began in 1963 when he joined the Research Department of Burns Brothers & Denton Limited as the industrial analyst. In 1966 he helped open the Halifax branch and in 1972 became the Atlantic Regional Director which position he held until 1993, when the firm was known as Burns Fry Limited.
David has served and or continues to serve on numerous boards of directors of public companies; including
- Extendicare Inc (TSE, NYSE), chairman from 1984 – 2006
- Assisted Living Concepts Inc (NYSE), chairman since 2006
- Highliner Foods Inc, chairman/ or vice chairman since restructuring in 1984
- Crombie REIT, as director of predecessor companies and lead director since 2008
David is currently chairman of Envirosystems Inc and director of a number of other private companies including Scotia Investments Limited.
David has also been involved in numerous corporate financings, mergers and acquisitions; including the acquisition of Fraser Cos, by Noranda, the IPO for Empire Co and the acquisition of Systems Dimensions Limited.
David served twice on the IDA National board and a term as the chairman of the Atlantic IDA and is on the Board of a number of charitable groups.
